Aurora Bee Company 1.5" x 1.5" PRIDE HIVE Enamel Pin
This #pridehive pin from Aurora Bee Company is the first of its kind.
After this year's ABC clothing run began, I was inspired by my friend Peabe to see about creating a pin with the same design.
With Peabe's help, this exists. In addition to being one of my favorite artists, Peabe has also been impacted by suicide with the recent loss of a lifelong friend. In an effort to help raise awareness, he created THIS pin (see Hulk below!) as a way of reminding us that we SHOULD be talking about the things that hurt us and stress us out.
I've already had three or four really good conversations with strangers about the pin while wearing it on my winter coat, and I'm positive anyone who wears our pin will be able to start similar chats up with even more strangers.
I hope that our PRIDE HIVE pin is the conversation starter we need to not lose one more fellow human.
Read more about the Pride Hive Logo and the meaning behind it:
We announced at the beginning of February 2018 that from here on out, our ABC logo ends in a semicolon instead of a period.
For those that aren't familiar with the importance of the semicolon: "A semicolon is used when an author could've chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life."
While tying a personal mission to a business is sometimes frowned upon, this is something that we are passionate about and we'd like to do as much as we can to help give credit to our friends who work in the field of Suicide Prevention.
So what do honeybees have to do with suicide prevention?
Everything has to do with suicide prevention.
We're not just losing our returning war veterans and farmers and musicians and athletes, we're losing our kids. Heck, we're losing future beekeepers.
Suicide among our youth is at seemingly epidemic levels, but it's also important to realize that suicide rates among LGBTQ youth is comparatively higher, with a staggering statistic showing that nearly 29% of all of LGBTQ youth have attempted suicide.
Regardless of your orientation, you're still human. Your life has value.
So because there are people out there on the front lines of Suicide Prevention, it is our intention that with every click, share, lick, or swallow of anything on the Aurora Bee Company #beesbro shelf we will be giving a nod to those fighting to keep us here. It's also important to note that we support those of us fighting battles we can't see, as we sometimes need reminders that it's okay to not be okay.
Mental health is a huge component of any healthy lifestyle and while I just started my own journey into counseling in January 2018, I am trying to do my small part in making talking about suicide a priority.
This pin exists because we still exist, and will continue to exist.
